Finnish bog

It is said that the Finland´s name in Finnish, Suomi, is derived from the Finnish word for bog – suo. And indeed, the proportion of bogs or peatlands is high in Finland. About a third of the land area of Finland was originally covered by peatlands, of which about half has been drained for forestry, farming and peat harvesting.

Finnish bogs fascinates me and one of the plants I’ve always loved ever since I was a kid is Labrador Tea. In June you can feel its smell on a bog.

However, when you are on a bog you can´t be too careful. Number of shores of lakes and ponds are swamped. The peat bed on the water’s edge can get broken and a walker may sink to water very easily.

After the rain

It is true that you can  take interesting shots in the rain but I think that a great time to shoot is immediately after the rain stops.

The sky will start to clear from the direction the storm has come from. Rain enhances colours and the area bathed in sunlight is quite extreme. In these shots taken in my hometown, I have focused on the moment after the rain.
